Once upon a time, there was a beautiful Queen and King of a faraway kingdom. It was a small kingdom, and the King was not particularly kind or wealthy. He and the Queen had an arranged marriage and only a single child: a daughter.
This Princess enjoyed spending her free time near a large lake, away from the castle. It was there that she one day came across a man - one more handsome than any she'd ever seen. Of course, he was no human male; he came from the unicorns, and as such he bore the mark upon his forehead and the wings that were typical of his kind.
His name was Serus, as he introduced himself to the Princess, and she instantly fell in love with him.
Over the next year, Serus and the Princess met at the lake many times a week. Sometimes they sat and talked, sometimes he even took her flying... but her favorite thing about him were his wings, and she loved to let him lay on her lap whilst she petted the soft feathers.
Unfortunately, the two grew too bold and Serus began flying to her window at night to visit her. It was only a matter of time before the King found out.
Now, unicorns are thought to be rare creatures because they are never seen. The truth of it is that they blend in well, and their towns are hidden by magic far from human eyes. But Serus was on their ground, and the next time he came to visit, the castle guards captured him and brought him to the King, who wished to sell him to the highest bidder of any other neighboring kingdom.
But the Princess would not have it. She snuck her way to see Serus after stealing the keys, and she released him. He begged her to come with him, and she refused, saying that her place was withing the castle.
So, Serus fled.
As he escaped the castle, the King rose the alarm and his guards gave chase. Serus was shot out of the sky with bows and arrows, and all they found of him was a scattering of feathers. Distraught, the Princess took her own life the next day.

At first glance, it seems like such a sad love story, no? Except I have heard the true version of it from one that Serus himself raised from a child.
Serus did visit the Princess often, yes. And he did begin to see her in her own home. However, the Princess began to plot, and she went to her father and asked him to have Serus captured so that she could keep him forever. They may not have been wealthy, but what Princess in the world had their own unicorn?
The King did as requested, but he decided he wanted to sell Serus instead of giving him to his daughter. Enraged, the Princess went to Serus with the intent of poisoning him. Serus, who really was far stronger and smarter than they credited him for, saw through her plan and broke free.
Serus did escape, and he was shot, but never shot down. He returned home, laughing and excited to tell of his adventure with the humans.
As for the Princess, she did not take her own life, but she was executed under the assumption that she had released Serus from his confines, and that the poison she'd been carrying was intended for her father.

Sometimes it's interesting to hear of such stories from both sides of the coin, is it not~?
((ooc: no, there's not a huge point behind this story at all. :( Shae just likes to tell it, and she thought Nill might enjoy a story about someone with wings~))
